Resonant Leadership
Resonant Leadership: renewing yourself and connecting with others through mindfulness hope and compassion. Boyatzis and McKee
Find out why this is one of my favourite leadership books.
Ann Whyte who introduced me to Resonant Leadership. For many years Ann was my executive coaching mentor. She was one of those people who was so full of energy and she could make anyone feel special. Sadly Ann passed away last year. I will never forget the impact she had on me personally and my executive coaching practice.
The book is based on 20 years of research. It outlines the concepts behind mindfulness, hope and compassion as a means to create the environment within which people thrive. It is full of case studies of resonant leaders who adopted these principles with great success. This helps you to understand the concepts in action.
It goes on to demonstrate dissonant leadership. Again the concepts are supported by case studies. These are stories of successful leaders who suddenly find themselves on the outside, in a downward spiral that is hard to stop. The authors look at what shifted for the leaders to go from resonant to dissonant.
We often learn as much from what we want to avoid as from what we want to learn to be.
The case studies also make it an easy read. I hope you enjoy it as much as Ann and me.
